The Last Lumenian Series Review + Giveaway

the last lumenian series reviewWhen someone offers me any type of fantasy book to read, I will read it. No questions asked. So when the Last Lumenian series was presented to me, I was all game. I had never heard of the series nor the author and there is nothing like an underrated fantasy series that knocks my socks off. The Last Lumenian is a two book series currently so I will break them both down for you before giving my opinions.

The Last Lumenian Synopsis

She is a rebel. Lilla is fighting for the refugees’s freedom from oppression. The king, her father, lost touch with reality ever since Lilla’s mother died. Now everyone else is paying the price.

The arrival of Callum, a powerful Teryn general, complicates Lilla’s life. His presence leads to conflicted feelings and friction with Arrov, a handsome pilot and fellow rebel.

Her life is not what she imagined it to be. Not by far. Meddling gods, love interests and sudden magical abilities have no room in Lilla’s world, but that has become her new reality. No matter how hard she pushes them away, it’s too late. They all seek to control her anyway.

Now the Era War between two ruling archgods forces Lilla to act: accept who she really is magic and all; find true love; fulfill her destiny by defeating the Archgod of Chaos and Destruction before He finds her. The Last Lumenian.

True Teryn Synopsis

Lilla must recruit the biggest and most dangerous army in the Seven Galaxies, but the Teryn emperor will not comply unless Lilla earns the blessing of the Teryn Guardian Goddess Laoise.

Dealing with gods is never easy. Guardian Goddess Laoise’s condition for bestowing her blessing is for Lilla to bring her the mysterious Heart Amulet. Now Lilla is trapped in a strange place with no way out, no idea where to go or how to find the amulet.

The only way for Lilla to complete her mission is to uncover the biggest secret of all Teryns. Will she survive discovering the secret of what it means to be a True Teryn?

MY THOUGHTS:

4 star rating

The Last Lumenian series is actually the first sci-fi fantasy I’ve read as an adult. I love fantasy books and sci-fi movies so I figured I would be in for a treat.

We know the story all too well, a princess in distress just trying to live her life. That is where we find 19 year old Lilla in the beginning of The Last Lumenian by S.G. Blaise. Struggling to fit in, Lilla’s story of wanting the love of her family and specifically her father is easy to relate to.

As you travel through the storyline you will find many worlds and different species of creatures co-inhabiting the universe together. However, there is a repressed people that gives the story a bit of spice. Lilla being the stubborn and sassy princess that she is decides to help these rebels in hopes of one day setting them free.

As Lilla’s character starts to build she soon discovers her powers and seeks to control them all while falling in love with a Teryn General. A girl loves falling for the one she shouldn’t have. As her powers manifest she readies herself for the Era War between two archgods. However, she still struggles with control due to some past trauma that haven’t been fully resolved.

At the end of book 1, Lilla finds her true place in the universe which also removes her from the throne and the life she knew which is where book 2, True Teryn, begins. Lilla now has the role of uniting kingdoms through manipulation of the political leaders to build the biggest army in the Seven Galaxies. This turns into her completing what seems to be a near impossible mission to find a lost relic to appease a god.

Once she has obtained said relic she also learns the greatest secret in the Teryn empire and to prove it, Lilla has to fight an infamous Teryn Executioner. In defeating the executioner she gains the recruitment of the Teryn Armada as well as learns what it means to be a True Teryn.

Overall the Last Lumenian series moved at a fairly quick pace. I wish the author would have lengthened the books and drawn out more of the battle scenes that happen. There were a lot of details that would have been an additional touch a reader like me would have enjoyed. Despite this, this series proved to be a solid read for being my first sci-fi fantasy book.

About the Author

S.G. Blaise was born in a faraway land of castles, monarchies, and fallen dictatorships, aka Hungary. Hollywood movies were forbidden under Soviet oppression during her childhood, but her dad smuggled them in, risking his life so that his children could experience the magic and hope inherent in those stories. She watched rebellions unfold in real-time. Journeyed across the Atlantic Ocean for love. She ended up in sunny California, where she is living her dream — writing stories and annoying family members.
